I had the honor of coordinating and photographing yet another styled shoot with Alison of Grace Creatives! Alison and I had grand plans of doing a series of styled shoots together, but when Covid hit, we had to press pause on them, so hopefully we’ll be able to get to do the others that we have ideas for in the near future.
This shoot was so incredibly dreamy and magical! We really wanted to focus on doing a simple elopement style shoot, with homemade elements, lots of wildflowers and lilacs, while also highlighting the Wisconsin farmland. After some research, Alison found the Old Stone House Farm, a flower farm located in Random Lake, Wisconsin. It was perfect for a flower farm elopement!
We worked with the owners, Gina and Cheryl on finding the perfect time in order to focus on their incredible row of lilacs. We literally ended up doing the shoot over the few days that they were in FULL bloom. Random fact: did you know that some lilacs are only in bloom for one week? I sure didn’t! We were incredibly thankful to them for educating us on their flowers and the best time for us to visit for our shoot.
The Old Stone House Farm is filled with stunning flowers, rolling hills overlooking the area, and historic buildings that take you back in time. So of course we took advantage of every corner of their property that we could for photos. First, we began in a small room in the red barn, with an intimate setup of an hexagon table top with antique sewing legs. Alison and I styled this part ourselves, while also using an abundance of lilacs and floral arrangements that Cheryl put together for us. We used antique china, candlestick holders, crocheted table coverings and hung wild flowers throughout the barn.
We also utilized their magical greenhouse! Then, we had fun using the old stone house in the background, which is what the farm is named after. The design of the large stones and mortar is incredible and truly captures the craft of building a house during that time.
But we spent a majority of our time along the row of their STUNNING lilacs. As mentioned, we happened to be there during the PEAK. They were vibrant and the aroma was indescribable! I could have photographed our models there for hours.
This property truly is the perfect spot for a flower farm elopement or a small, intimate wedding. Since they are a flower farm, there is also an advantage of being able to use them for floral needs. They grow over 70 varieties of flowers throughout their 8.5 acre property, along with in their greenhouse.
A HUGE thank you to Cheryl and Gina for allowing us to use their flower farm! As well as a thank you to all of the other vendors who helped make this shoot possible!
